New Models and Pricing
Microsoft has reshuffled its Surface lineup, rolling out smaller, more affordable models while tweaking pricing across the board. The latest additions include:
- A 13-inch Surface Laptop starting at $899.99
- A 12-inch Surface Pro starting at $799.99
Both are slightly smaller and cheaper than their predecessors. For comparison, the previous 13.8-inch Surface Laptop and 13-inch Surface Pro models started at $999.
Changes to Existing Models
To make way for the new entries, Microsoft has:
- Discontinued the lowest-priced 13.8-inch Surface Laptop
- Raised the starting price of the remaining 13.8-inch model to $1,199.99 (up from $999)
- Removed the base Surface Pro model with 256GB SSD, pushing the new entry-level price to $1,199
These moves effectively eliminate the most budget-friendly versions of the larger models.
Stock and Availability
Some configurations, like the 15-inch Surface Laptop with Snapdragon X Elite, are currently out of stock. Prices for mid- and high-end models across the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lines remain unchanged, despite the lower-end shake-up.
What This Means
Microsoft appears to be creating a clearer divide between its entry-level and premium Surface models. The new, smaller devices may appeal to students, casual users, or anyone looking for a more portable option.
It’s unclear whether the lower pricing on these new models is permanent or part of a short-term strategy to boost adoption.
